Jury Convicts Manafort

Paul Manafort, Former Trump Campaign Chairman, Guilty of 8 Charges in Fraud Trial: (“Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, was convicted on Tuesday in his financial fraud trial, bringing a dramatic end to a politically charged case that riveted the capital. * * * The verdict was a victory for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, whose prosecutors introduced extensive evidence that Mr. Manafort hid millions of dollars in foreign accounts to evade taxes and lied to banks repeatedly to obtain $20 million in loans. * * * Mr. Manafort was convicted of five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud and one count of failure to disclose a foreign bank account. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on the remaining 10 counts, and the judge declared a mistrial on those charges.”)

Prison for Papadopoulos?

Mueller Asks for Jail Time for Papadopoulos: (“The special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election has told a judge that a former adviser to the Trump campaign repeatedly lied about his contacts with Russian operatives and ’caused damage’ to the government’s inquiry. * * * In a document filed Friday evening, the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, said that the former adviser, George Papadopoulos, misled investigators about the ‘timing, extent and nature’ of the meetings. During one of them, Mr. Papadopoulos was told that Russia had damaging information about Hillary Clinton in the form of ‘thousands of emails.'”

FBI Fires Strzok

FBI Agent Peter Strzok Fired over Anti-Trump Texts: (“The FBI has fired Agent Peter Strzok, who helped lead the bureau’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election until officials discovered he had been sending anti-Trump texts. * * * Aitan Goelman, Strzok’s lawyer, said FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich ordered the firing on Friday — even though the director of the FBI office that normally handles employee discipline had decided Strzok should face only a demotion and 60-day suspension. Goelman said the move undercuts the FBI’s repeated assurances that Strzok would be afforded the normal disciplinary process. * * * ‘This isn’t the normal process in any way more than name,’ Goelman said.”)

Special Counsel Indicts 12 (More) Russians for Election 2016 Hacking

Mueller Probe Indicts 12 Russians with Hacking Democrats in 2016: (“A dozen Russian military intelligence officers were indicted Friday on charges they hacked Democrats’ computers, stole their data, and published those files to disrupt the 2016 election — the clearest connection to the Kremlin established so far by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of interference in the presidential campaign.”)

Will Cohen Finally Flip on Trump?

Michael Cohen to Trump: I will flip on you if I need To: (“Michael Cohen once said he would “take a bullet” for President Trump. He reportedly said he would rather “jump out of a building than turn on Donald Trump.” * * * He now sounds ready to leap. * * * In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos running Monday morning, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer sent his clearest signal to date that he is prepared to flip on Trump. And while there have certainly been other signs recently, this one came from the horse’s mouth.”)
